Canva AI

Editor's Review

Canva AI (Magic Studio) is the design industry's best on-ramp to AI generation, and its pricing reflects that positioning: Free gives you 20 AI uses a month from a shared pool; Pro runs about $15/month ($144/year) with up to 200 Premium or 20 Ultra uses monthly; Business is $250/year per person. The 2026 headline was Canva AI 2.0 — conversational design where you describe what you want and it builds editable design objects, not flat images — plus a pricey AI Pass add-on (~$100/person/month) for heavy users. The catch is the shared credit pool. Ultra-tier tools can burn roughly 100× what a Standard action costs, every regeneration (including failed ones) draws from the same allowance, there's no rollover, and Pro has no à-la-carte top-up. Burn through your 20 Ultra uses by mid-month and you're done until the billing date resets. AI image quality also trails Midjourney on hard cases: complex hair, reflective products, exact corrections. Who should pay? Marketing teams already living in Canva — the AI is good enough for social posts, decks, and quick mockups, and staying in one tool beats pipeline juggling. Who shouldn't? Anyone chasing top-tier image quality (get Midjourney at $30/month) or pro retouching at full resolution (Adobe Express/Firefly via Creative Cloud Pro $69.99/month with 4,000 generative credits wins there). Canva AI is a convenience feature for Canva people, not a destination image generator.
