Pricing: Free (10,000 credits/month, ~10 min audio, non-commercial); Starter $6/month ($5 annual, ~30 min, commercial license, instant cloning); Creator $22/month ($18.33 annual, ~2 hrs); Pro $99/month (~10 hrs); Scale $299; Business $990. API runs ~$50/M characters (Flash/Turbo) to ~$100/M (Multilingual v3) — the most expensive mainstream voice API, versus OpenAI/Google at ~$12–18/M. Terrible economics at scale. Two honest warnings. First, v4 dropped SSML support — existing scripts using break/prosody tags must be rewritten as natural-language tags. Second, legal exposure: a May 2026 class action (Amer v. Eleven Labs, Illinois BIPA) over voice-data collection, plus senators questioning fraud safeguards (the FBI logged ~$893M in 2025 AI-voice fraud). Who should pay? Anyone needing elite single-speaker narration at modest volume — audiobooks, video voiceover, indie games. At scale, OpenAI TTS wins on cost with slightly less expressiveness.
