Kling AI

Editor's Review

Kling AI (by Kuaishou) is the budget king of AI video generation, and the 2026 market consolidated in its favor: OpenAI shut the Sora app (April 2026) and killed Sora 2 (September 24, 2026), leaving commercial video AI to Kling, Google Veo 3.1, and Runway. Kling 3.0 added native audio (synced sound in one generation) and native lip-sync, held top ELO benchmark scores in April 2026, and claims 60M creators plus 30,000 enterprise clients. Pricing: Free (66 credits/day, watermarked 720p); Standard $6.99–8.80/month (660 credits); Pro $25.99–32.56 (3,000); Premier $64.99–80.96 (8,000); Ultra $127.99–159.99 (26,000). First month ~30% off, yearly ~25% cheaper. Kling 3.0 bills 6–12 credits/second (30 for native 4K). API is sold separately. The honest complaints: credits expire each cycle with no rollover; failed generations still consume credits, with 30–40% failure rates reported at peak hours on the free tier; Professional mode eats 35–80 credits per 10-second clip, so limits deplete faster than advertised. It's also single-purpose — no image gen, audio studio, or workflow tools. Who should pay? Anyone who wants maximum video-seconds per dollar — hobbyists, meme pages, high-volume short-form producers. Who shouldn't? Power users needing video-to-video, inpainting, or multi-motion brush: Runway ($15/month Standard) wins on the pro toolset, and its former Unlimited-style plans beat Kling per-video past ~50 videos/month. Kling is the value pick; Runway is the craft pick. Don't pay for Premier until you've burned through Pro and done the credit math twice.
